Southern Comforts

For this Blogtember post: React to this term: comfort.

Growing up in the Deep South, I can’t help but equate the word comfort with food, and food with grandma. I come from a very close family and was lucky enough to grow up with all 3 sets of my grandparents. Two of my grandmas are what you might envision when you think “southern grandma.” Each one has their specialty – fried chicken, grits, biscuits, pies, cobblers, etc etc etc – but the one thing it all has in common is being y*mmy! It’s pretty hard to beat (or fully replicate) home-grown, home-made comfort food but I try to make due (smile). Unfortunately, all of my favorite “comfort recipes” also happen to be the unhealthiest items, so I try to limit those to really bad days or special occasions. On the not-so-bad bad days, I settle for a glass of wine and a phone call to one of those grandmas instead (big smile).

Of course my standard, every single day, fat-free comfort is these furballs. Call me a cat lady if you want, they are an instant comfort that make me smile every day (smile)!

These are my favorites, what are some of your go to comforts?

  1. Homemade comfort food, grandparents and kitties!! Great list, I think mine would include all the same. Also a good hot bath and cup of tea:)
