Happy Father’s Day!!

I’ve been a daddy’s girl all my life – at least according to the stories. And I tend to believe them as almost all of my earliest memories involve my dad. He’s not a perfect man, but he has always supported me and tried to guide me when I would listen (smile). We’ve had our ups and downs through the years, but the older I get, the more precious our relationship becomes to me. We’ve traveled the world, made it through some really difficult times, and continue to grow into our new life stages together. My dad’s always been a joker/prankster and I’ve inherited my sense of humor (along with a multitude of other debatable characteristics – smile) from him. I wouldn’t change any of it – today and every day, I’m so grateful to have my daddy.

It’s funny to think about now, but most of my life discussions have either been with my dad or one of grandfathers. I’m not sure why it was so much easier to take advice from the male figures in my life, maybe it was the lack of judgment and the way they each made me feel that they would love me unconditionally. I was blessed with three grandfathers growing up – of which two out of three were amazing. The other wasn’t a bad guy, I just never really saw him much. None of these men hung fancy degrees on the walls, but they worked hard their entire lives to provide for their families. The main two always made sure everyone knew they were loved and had a safe place to fall, if that’s what we needed. Now don’t get me wrong, they were all there to hand out discipline if the grandmas weren’t around (smile), but I always walked away knowing it was fair and for my own good. They helped make me the person I am today and I appreciate every single day we still have together because I understand now that it can’t last forever.

So to my daddy, papa, B, and Em thank you all for being the fathers and grandfathers you were/are. You’ve not only shaped my life but the lives of so many others. You didn’t fight any revolutions, but you shaped the world in your own ways. And the world is grateful. It’s hard to give greater praise than that. I wish you all a very Happy Father’s Day!!
