Weekly Photo Challenge: Desert Forces of Nature

This week’s photo challenge is “forces of nature,” specifically in my area of the world. Here in the desert, the largest and most obvious evidence of the force of mother nature is the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon and it’s “creator” the Colorado River

But the story wouldn’t be complete without mentioning all of the other forces of nature here in the desert. It’s starkly obvious out in the sand, with little room for hiding, just how powerful mother nature can be – and how resilient her creatures. From monsoons to dust storms, there is beauty in all of her moods.

  2. Love this! Great shots and wonderful commentary. Two girlfriends and I drove to Flagstaff, AZ two days after graduation and visited the Grand Canyon on that wonderful coming-of-age adventure forty years ago. It was love at first sight.

Sorely in need of a return visit, don’t you think?!?!

    • What a great memory! I would say that a return visit is indeed in order πŸ™‚ The Grand Canyon is one of those places that somehow changes every time you visit. My goal is to make it up one year for the winter snow – from what I’ve seen it’s even more spectacular than usual!

  3. Very cool dust storm picture! And I LOVE the Grand Canyon! That is what first came to my mind when I saw the challenge. So may have to post my Grand Canyon pics too πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! I thought about not using the Grand Canyon, but sometimes the cliche just fits πŸ™‚ In all my travels, the Grand Canyon is on the short list of places that surpassed all expectations – and I feel so lucky to have it only a few hours away! It’s amazing how many people that have lived in Arizona for decades have never made the journey up…
You should definitely share your photos – everyone has a different take/angle on the experience and I love seeing them all!
