Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Under-Ground

For this week’s photo challenge – “Ground: sand, dirt, paths, walks, trails, etc.” – I thought I’d go a bit deeper (ha) and head underground. These photos were taken at Colossal Cave located in southern Arizona. This is a “dry” (i.e., dead) cave, so you have a bit more leeway in terms of touching, photographing, etc. Not that you’ll be making any friends with your flash, but, you know, the sacrifices we make for photos. (smile) Seriously though, it’s a great stop if you’re in the area. And if caves are your thing, there’s also nearby(ish) Kartchner Caverns, which is still alive and growing – although I strongly recommend looking at tour times before you go.

  1. Back in my early 30’s, I belonged to the Iowa Grotto – a ‘robust’ (!!!) group of spelunkers and otherwise crazy people who enjoyed rappelling into deep pits, crawling through mud-laden tight holes and cave diving murky waters.

Great shots. Thanks for reminding me of some truly fun times!!
