Travel Plans: 2016 Ramblings

Here’s a fact for you: making lists makes me happy. Making a list that involves travel?Β  Well that just makes me absolutely giddy! (smile) While I don’t normally make resolutions/share goals for the year, travel is the one exception. I really enjoyed checking off the 2015 list, so I’ve decided to have another go with 2016.

2015 Review

I did really well with my travel goals for 2015. There was only one location that I didn’t get to – South Dakota – so I’m just moving it to 2016. Otherwise I had a great time exploring Arizona, visiting friends in Louisiana, and spending time with family in Ohio. Morocco…well, Morocco was beyond anything I could’ve hoped for, so I’d say that was a success as well! (smile)

2016 Destinations

Domestic

Arizona: I intend to make this the year of completing my Arizona Must See List. I checked a couple locations off this year (including Havasupai Falls) but I still have a few left (and perhaps a new one as well…) including Yuma, Grand Falls (aka Chocolate Falls), the slot canyons (e.g., Antelope Canyon), and Horseshoe Bend.

New Mexico: I’ve been to New Mexico a few times before, but I really want to visit Santa Fe and the White Sands National Monument. Both are a reasonable drive so no more excuses!

California: I would really like to spend more time with my friends in California this year. My niece is growing so fast – I want to be around for more of those special moments. I’m also determined to make this the year I visit San Francisco. It’s overdue.

South Dakota: I didn’t make it there in 2015 due to logistical challenges, but it’s happening this year! I’ve gone on and on about it so much that I now have volunteers to join me – maybe waiting wasn’t so bad after all…

International

Well, much like last year this one’s still to be determined. I have three four options in mind and only one of those is readily accessible and/or relatively safe. So of course it’s at the bottom of my list. (smile) I would love to reunite with a few of my fellow Morocco travelers, but we’ll see how that goes. No matter where I end up this year, I’m looking forward to the adventure and to meeting new people!

Where are you going this year??

  5. I think this year it will be camping for us, due to financial constraints… perhaps this year I can theme ‘Spicing Up The Mundane’, because camping a few hours from home just doesn’t hold the same thrill as going somewhere you’ve never been. But I’ll make the best of it!

  6. These sound like great plans. I can’t wait to see more of your photos from Arizona since I loved it so much. I’m sure there will be another trip in our future there. And then New Mexico was tossed around as an idea for this year just the other day. How about you go first and check it all out and then report back? πŸ™‚
And you know I really can’t wait to see which international destination you decide on. Very intriguing that only one is relatively safe. Hmmm…. wonder what they are and which one you’ll choose.

    • Lol – I’ll definitely let you know how NM goes! From the bits I’ve seen through work trips, it’s a lot like AZ without the big canyon – beautiful but a little mysterious unless you know what you’re looking for. I’m excited to see more πŸ™‚
As for international travel, it sounds like Europe is definitely on the list in some capacity (there’s a family trip in the making). But I’m also determined to try to sneak in another – all options being on this side of the world and decidedly south of AZ. We’ll see how that one pans out!

  7. So exciting! Would love to visit the Falls with you in Arizona. I hope you do make it to California to visit your friends and niece! Anxious to hear what countries you are considering! All I know for certain is that we are planning to go to Georgia to visit my daughter’s best friend for my daughter’s birthday. My other daughter is dying to go to England to visit her friend! I would love to go to England! We will see if we can do it! Powerball would help, LOL!

    • If you decide to head west, just let me know! I’m always up for showing off AZ πŸ™‚ Georgia can be an adventure itself, so hopefully that’ll be a fun trip! England is always a good option as well, especially if you know someone there that can show you around a bit. I find that it’s really just all exciting to think about and tentatively plan out – if it happens, all the better πŸ™‚

  8. That’s wonderful you managed to complete the list for 2015, except one. Looking forward to seeing where 2016 takes you. No travelling plans here … and that is good too πŸ™‚

  9. A great list Meredith, it’s good to hear that you managed to tick off most of your locations from 2015! πŸ™‚ I’ll look forward to seeing some of those places you name for your 2016 list! πŸ™‚
Alas, my list of places to visit is fairly local, ie more places in and around Fife.
